What are the advantages of string template engines over virtual DOM template engines?

What are the advantages of string template engines over virtual DOM template engines if I plan to use the template engine only on the frontend?
Interested in how relevant it is to use templates like JqueryTml, JUST.js, handelbars and the like, or is it better to take on VUE.js?
