What are free record keeping systems?
I want to work on the requirements, architecture and primary specification of the API of my project. I want to find a tool where I can conveniently organize my thoughts. I myself have repeatedly dealt with similar tasks at work, but the tools were imposed by the employer: I have experience with paid Confluence and free MKdocs. I liked working with MKdocs more, it's easier for me to write a markdown than to click on the documentation with the mouse in the browser, I also like that such documentation can be kept under version control in my git repository. However, I'm not sure if this is the best tool.
Please tell me the documentation tools.

It seems to me that you have 1 question and 2 requirements: "free documentation systems" and "where I can conveniently organize my thoughts." The question is how do you organize your thoughts? Just a quick typing? Or maybe boards (Trello)?
I recommend Sphinx (+doxygen) for docks and Trello for project management!
Good luck!
