What advance payment to give the performer?
There is an authoritative opinion that it is not worth giving more than 30% of the advance payment to the contractor. This is highly demotivating. But when I went to freelancing, the best thing I saw was 50% prepayment.
I think that professionals and large studios will not work with an advance payment of 30%. It turns out, on the one hand, motivation and 30% prepayment, and on the other hand, real professionals and high quality work, but 50 - 100% prepayment and possible problems with motivation and deadlines.
What to do?

Money is not a motivation
Money is the equivalent of labor
Pay is always a compromise solution between the two parties
There is no common solution for all
There are a lot of variables in this equation: the scale of the project, the amount of payment, the position of the contractor in the market, and a bunch of other factors.
It is unlikely that an adequate performer will work on a long-term project without an advance payment of at least 50%. On the other hand, these are big risks for the customer - where is the guarantee that a person will make at least 50% of the project and will not disappear. In this case, adequate people break the project into iterations and rent / pay for each iteration separately.
We have always agreed on comfortable terms for both parties. Basically, at first, an advance payment of 30-35%, and the rest upon acceptance of the work.
Pah-pah-pah, there were no problems.
I don’t know how on fl.ru, but on adequate exchanges (Elance), all work goes only through escrow.
The customer enters the entire amount in escrow, and I can safely do the work, knowing that it will be paid (even if the customer disappears).
If the amount is large, and there is no desire to pay everything at once, then the project is divided into milestones, and each is paid separately.
What's the point of working without prepayment? Who will agree to this? If this is not a $50 project, then only through escrow, and work begins only after the customer has deposited the money.
On what basis do you want to pay prepayments? Why do you want to do half of your work when the performer hasn't done anything. your text looks stupid. there is no reason to pay up front for unguaranteed services. I never pay ahead to freelancers or studios and have never made a mistake.
it all depends on the size of the project. Small project - 50% is ok. Large - act according to the scheme 30% - 40% - 30%. Divide the project into three parts and pay for each as it is ready. In the contract, everything should be carefully spelled out for what and how to pay.
