mplayer (more precisely, the mencoder utility), I use the console version, support for almost all platforms.
I use the Logitech Webcam Software that came with the camera. I thought that all modern webcams with such software are sold. At least Logitech, some kind of Polish rather old, already outdated, built into a laptop - all were with recording software.
You can write quite simply using the OpenCV library - opencv.willowgarage.com/wiki/CameraCapture.
I use xsplit
free
after registration. It can write videos not only from a webcam, but also from the desktop, you can combine it, as well as broadcast it online to various resources. Everything is clear and understandable.
VirtualDub (I have version 1.9.11)
It's easy:
1. File - Capture AVI.
2. Device - WebCam
3. Video - Compression (or hotkey C), if you need sound, then Audio - Compression (A)
4. File - Set Capture file (F2)
5. Capture - Capture Video (F5)
You can set the maximum size via File - Allocate Disk Space.
Recording ends Capture - Stop (Esc) or upon reaching the specified conditions in Capture - Stop Condition.
