Web application from an Android developer?

Hello, I am writing an application for android, it became necessary to create a companion web application that should perform duplicate functions, only for desktops. Hence the question, what technology would you recommend based on the fact that you have experience in developing in java and the basics of php (I wrote simple backends and parsers for android projects). What is now generally in the "trend" for the frontend, web dev in general, and actually where to start. Thanks in advance.
