Very slow read speed of external usb hdd drive?

Good day!
The problem is this: there is an external hard drive WD My Passport for Mac. It has the hfs+ file system.
Brought it to me kind of dropped a bit. Mac OS and WIndows do not see it. I managed to mount on Linux, but the reading speed is terribly slow.
you need to copy data from it (about 150 GB, a lot of small files)
what could be the problem with such a low read speed? are there any ideas?
if you need more information ask

@Nikolay45

And it would be nice to take it out of the box and provide forced cooling. Good luck.

Try partclone.hfs+ with the -R switch or partclone.dd with the same switch. It helped me.
