I study at Fifte, so I will not recommend, but simply describe IMHO the pros and cons.
pros:
- all the top (all-Russians, internationals) mathematicians and progers go here. that is, their percentage content is really off scale. Accordingly, the demand is also very large
- there are 2 groups for the program - the main and advanced levels. at the first one, "industrial" progers are taught more, from the advanced one, most of them go into data analysis and so on
- it's still too early for me (I finished 1 course), but Yandex has a data analysis department here, for which there is a big competition. but there is something to strive for and in its pure form, no other university deals with this discipline (but in vain)
- program teachers - real prog from Yandex and Abbyy, who conduct classes once a week, receiving time off from their companies. That is, no grandmothers with BASIC textbooks from the USSR
- already in the second semester they taught how to work with unix (how to write a chat, parallelize programs on different devices, etc.)
- the department of discrete mathematics is really one of the top ones in the country, so there is a less prog and a little more math
- you study for one excels = you get 15,000 a month
- you can wake up 15 minutes before class,
and now from the minuses:
- yes, long-leg is a hole of all holes, but there are all sorts of fives-mirators
- if you're not lucky with a seminarian, you will kick the bullshit
- there is a lot of attention to English and physical, there are a lot of them
- in fact, no one hits with a stick: about half of the students, in my opinion, do nothing at all and somehow go with the flow. but it would be necessary to expel them, as in the Mekhmat
- yes, there is some kind of simplified in relation to the general institute physics. it starts from the 4th semester and up to the 6th inclusive. but they say that this is for show (they say, phystech) and no one is soaring about it
- there is a very competitive environment here. really, if you don’t sometimes turn on the brain to understand that grades are needed only for a penny and a basic department, then all these races for most people do not lead to good
subjectively:
talking with friends who have gone to the higher school, mgtu, mekhmat, spbgu (matmeh) - they are all unhappy. Some are basic with grandmothers, some are expensive for 3 hours a day, some are lack of motivation. I know that I am right, having entered here - in any other place all ambitions would not have been preserved, all the ardor would have faded,
I hope I helped)

Look for the one closer to home. Recently, the HSE has left the most progressive impression.

I will write anything.
one.

2) Moscow State University (at VMK)
Of the minuses:
- The university is more humanitarian than IT

I remembered the good old boyan.
A person comes after VMK to receive a second higher education. He is asked what his previous background was - technical or humanitarian. He hesitated.
- Let's look at your diploma ... So, there was no higher mathematics, there was no descriptive geometry, there was no resistance to evidence ... Game theory - they’ll come up with something else! Yes, you have a liberal arts background.
Of the listed options on the VMC, the maximum amount of mathematics, including a lot of modern mathematics as a special. courses and in the program, like the same games, many numerical methods, all sorts of complexity theories, etc. applied mat. courses.
In terms of the old Soviet classification, VMK provides a natural science education in mathematics, numerical methods, and programming. Those. yes, it is definitely not a technical university. But not humanitarian at all.
2. IT, in my opinion, is a specialization of a rather narrow part of the education that can be obtained at any of the universities listed. Our universities traditionally provide education that is broader than is necessary for professions on the market, but less sharpened than is often necessary.
3. If I understand correctly, of the options listed, MIPT has the maximum quota for deductions. Those. translating into an understandable language - yes, they force you to learn more, with a stick. On the other hand, this can be a disadvantage if you start looking for a job on a topic of interest in the 2nd year.
4. MSU has no internships. At least in the sense in which they are in other universities. And this, in my opinion, is a serious shortcoming.
5. Moscow State University is building up its technopark.
6. At MIPT, I would advise you to look at the FRTC.

Relatively recently, she studied at the graduate school of the IPU RAS. I had two scientific instructors, one forced me to go to Moscow State University for the seminars that he teaches there, the other - to various lectures at the Higher School, because. also teaches there. I saw guys from Phystech, from Baumanka, from Moscow State University at various seminars.
It is difficult to compare the guys from the Phystech and Moscow State University, both of them, well done nerds. Both diligent fellows and paid gougings study at HSE. By the way, at our work (a highly loaded site based on Ruby on Rails and other crap), one friend from HSE, a ruby specialist, is currently working. Well done, though not as high academic flight as some dude from Moscow State University. But in algorithms it cuts quite well. It seemed that simpler guys study in Baumanka.
There are many very useful practical seminars at HSE. They have a joint computer department with Yandex, for example. From a practical point of view, I attended lectures by a foreign professor on the mechanisms of taxation there. I liked it very much. Many foreign specialists come there, everyone is driven to listen to seminars and lectures in English. Science is stimulated at HSE, and you can get a fairly good salary (for a researcher) if you have articles in good foreign journals. Accordingly, good scientists flock there in search of additional earnings. So if you want to achieve something later in graduate school, or get more practical knowledge, then you are there. If there were such opportunities as you have, and it would be possible to start all over again :), then my rating would be as follows: HSE, Phystech, Moscow State University, Baumanka.

Astra, good afternoon. Serious IT education is only now emerging in Innopolis. It seems to me that if you have the opportunity to enter any university, you should choose the one with more practice, where there is an opportunity to do science and research. Within the framework of science, after all, IT professions may turn out to be small for you, although they may be more monetary. Do you really want to study at a university for 5 years, I hope to finish it with honors, and then introduce some kind of SAP for 150-200 thousand per month, and the money is not bad, but are you sure that this is exactly your goal?

Phystech without options, if you can. Well, 25 minutes to the center is not much at all by Moscow standards.

Here's another discussion: What to choose FIHT MIPT or FUPM MIPT
Two minuses, perhaps insignificant:
1. Studied at MIPT at FPPF in the 90s. There were very few girls (we have 3 on the course in 80+, on the FRTK - one per faculty in general), and they were a freebie. Now there are noticeably more girls, and I don’t know how things are.
2. To Savelovsky station half an hour by train.
I want to write one important, from my point of view, thing. When choosing a university, you should think about the expected circle of friends. Those people in whose company you will "cook".

Studied at MIPT. If you want to seriously engage in IT, I do not advise going there.
As you correctly noted, the university is more physical. If you want to leave through physics, then you can, but you will have to study a LOT, you have no idea how much.
Another minus - everything is located on the outskirts, in Dolgop. It's like a closed world. All the time while I studied and lived there, there was a feeling that life was passing somewhere aside, and we were cooking here ..
Well, the specific atmosphere of people cut off from life, immersed in themselves ..
To roughly understand the atmosphere, you can read the Phystech forum: ):
board.rt.mipt.ru
In my opinion, Baumanka is the best in IT now. Or VMK MSU.
At least this is all in Moscow, movement, networking and all that will happen.
I would recommend MGU. If I had chosen where to go now, I would go to Moscow State University. This is, as it were, the "last face" of the fading formation of the Russian Federation.

There were several IT specialties.

Take a closer look at Baumanka and park.mail.ru (REC from Mail.ru).
There is no more practice in any of the above places.
