Variables or Bindings?

Hello.
I'm learning JavaScript.
I'm currently reading Expressive JavaScript .

It is noteworthy that:
in the second edition of the book
- in the English version , the term "variables" was still used
- in the Russian version - "variables"

but in the third edition of the book
- in the English version , instead of "variables" the term "bindings" is used
- in the Russian version (there seems to be no online version) this is translated as "bindings".

Question:
Has the government changed?
Will there be bindings instead of variables now?
