Using traffic encryption in an online game?

Is encryption used in modern online games where maximum server performance is required, such as shooters?

What encryption is most commonly used? Asymmetrical or symmetrical? What is it used for?
What encryption algorithms are used?
Are there any ready-made solutions to use?

Asymmetric encryption is never used to work with a data stream - it's too expensive. It is used to transmit the key of a symmetric cipher, and now they encrypt the rest of the stream.

The simplest "out of the box" solution is to use SSL. If desired, of course, you can get a certificate, like everything else, but this will at least protect against simple viewing of traffic by all sorts of sniffers.

As far as I know, game traffic is never encrypted.
It just doesn't make sense to defend him. Why would anyone intercept traffic? If the player is a cheater, he will patch the client. If these are competitions, then they are held in special places (otherwise the players would cheat). If the game is blocked (as in China), then encryption will not work, they use a VPN.
