USB sata adapter burned hdd?

I bought such an adapter, connected everything, turned on the power, it sparked, it died and the disk finished off, the question is, can I present something to the seller and demand money or a new adapter, and compensation for hdd?

and compensation for hdd?

This is a good and interesting question.
As far as I know, insurance companies (which are usually still ghouls) in court after an insured event (bay, fire, etc.) can easily demand proof that a burnt or flooded computer was working, and it must be compensated at the cost of a serviceable iron, not scrap metal.
Accordingly, I do not exclude that you may well be required to prove the initial serviceability of the disk, as well as the fact that it burned out in the USB box.
How to prove it - unequivocally I do not presume to judge. Moreover, it seems that even one more disk cannot be burned as part of the experiment. The usb adapter also burned out.
Perhaps technical expertise is needed, but how much it will cost and whether it will be possible to compensate for the cost later is another open question.
If the seller is large, consider contacting him publicly.
