USB encryption. What software to use?

Good afternoon.
Task: Encrypt the flash drive so that it can be read after entering the password in any computer running Windows.
An approximate algorithm of work is seen as follows:
1. Insert a USB flash drive.
2. The program starts from a flash drive and asks for a password.
3. After entering the password, the program decrypts the partition on the flash drive. Another disk appears in the system.
4. ...
5. Profit.
Question: What software can provide this functionality?
PS: In the future, to work not only under Win, but also under Linux.

TrueCrypt is no longer supported, use VeraCrypt or Gostcrypt or CipherShed. Either way, they are supported. Moreover, they are based on TrueCrypt.
But if we talk about free encryptors not based on true crypto, then DiskCryptor, FreeOTFE, XorCryptWin. True, the latter is for encrypting specific files, if my memory serves me right.

truecrypt
Format the flash drive into a convenient system (for example, fat32 so that it can be read everywhere),
create an encrypted disk on it for almost the entire volume,
put portable truecrypt for Windows in the root. for linux
profit
