Upwork system administrator?

Hello.
I want to bring a good friend to upwork, he works as a sysadmin in a large hosting company, but he is paid little enough for what he does.
I wanted to know how the orders related to the administration of servers, or the performance of some work on them, are handled?
For example, the customer will ask to rebuild php, or fix apache / nginx configs, etc. You can't do it without root.
Does the customer provide data?
Also, for example, in his company, administration is paid as an hourly payment, but how about upwork? On the fact of the work performed or is it also hourly?
In general, who administers there, please tell us.
PS Comrade Puma, I provided links to your broadcast and to sites, but everything is quite abstract there, more extended answers are needed here

There are also orders with both hourly and project-based payment. Root access immediately, I think, will not be given. Most likely there will be access through TeamViewer, at least at first. That is, the client will open an ssh session on his computer and give you TeamViewer access to his computer to see what you are doing.
From experience, there are much fewer admin tasks than programmers. So building a client base will take a decent amount of time. When there is already a certain reputation, regular customers will appear, then it will be easier. But don't count on quick success.

Usually, customers provide root access without problems if the tasks require it.
There is also an hourly payment on upwork, but there are orders with payment and on a project basis, i.e. for every taste.

In my experience, it's difficult for an admin to work on UpWork. There must be connections, and if there are recommendations, then they will take it. Few people will entrust their servers to an admin without a reputation.
