Upgrading Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. What are the consequences for you?

I have a 2010 Asus K52JU laptop. The bundle is standard, except for RAM 8GB, instead of a DVD, there is a 320GB HDD (mounted in / home), and the system (root / ) is on a Kingston 120GB SSD. Until now, it was running Ubuntu 14.04. Yesterday I decided to upgrade to 14.10. Left it all overnight. In the morning I came, pressed the buttons (there are all sorts of agreements and so on), rebooted. After the reboot, the following happens: A password prompt appears (normal GUI), and after entering the password, the system hangs! The working environment does not start any further!
How to be and what to do?!
ZYZH updated the kernel to version 4.0 three days ago, after which the system periodically crashed. The whole gui barely noticeably slowed down for a split second.
ZYZH 2I'm thinking of beta 15.04 a couple of days before the official release :-) Question: Is it worth it?

On the issue of beta 15.04. I've already upgraded 2 out of 3 computers to 15.04b2, kubuntu though. Everything works great, no glitches, and the new sneakers are just amazing. Of course, I do not exclude that in the process of use there will be some roughness, but now this is all being quickly resolved.

To suffer.
Why did you upgrade at all? What was missing in 14.04?

I had a similar situation on 14.04, even without updating to 14.10. Solved it by installing xfce+PacmanFM, and then just cleaned up the tails.
After reading the logs for a long time, I came to the conclusion that the proprietary driver (Nvidia GeForce 7300 Go video card) started acting up. I think that it was necessary to simply remove this driver and switch to the open one that comes out of the box. But again, these are my guesses.
