Upgrading to Windows 10?
Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 peacefully coexist on a laptop, and one day I decided to upgrade my Windows 8.1 to Technical Preview Windows 10.
Now my main bootloader is Grub.
If I decide to update using the suggested methods, will my bootloader crash and will I have to spend the best hours of my life after that in order to turn back the clock and get rid of stupid thoughts about upgrading?

It will not crash if you have UEFI, and you are not booting in Legacy mode, then you can safely update, otherwise have Ubuntu Live USB handy to reinstall the bootloader

make a backup copy of the partitions with acronis and you can safely shit if the rollback takes minutes
