Upgrading the hardware of a home server. Is the game worth the candle?
Hello gentlemen. There is a home server. The main hardware at the moment:
- Case Foxconn RS-338 (Mini-ITX);
- Intel DN2800MT motherboard with built-in Intel Atom N2800 processor;
- 1st DDR3 SO-DIMM memory module, 4 Gb, PC-1066;
- 2nd memory module DDR3 SO-DIMM, 2 Gb, PC-1066.
- Wi-Fi adapter TP-Link TL-WN881ND;
- USB-setevushka D-Link DUB-E100C1;
- Hard disks.
The server has been running on Debian for the last 6 years and performs the following tasks:
- Internet gateway;
- Wi-Fi hotspot (hostapd);
- Access to network drives (samba);
- File cleaning (proftpd);
- Torrent downloader (transmission-daemon);
- Web server (nginx, php7-fpm, mariadb, etc).
The question of updating iron has ripened. Looked closely at the following:
- ASRock J5005-ITX motherboard with built-in Intel Pentium J5005 processor;
- 1st DDR4 SO-DIMM memory module, 8 Gb, PC-2400;
- 2nd memory module DDR4 SO-DIMM, 8 Gb, PC-2400.
Goal: With minimum consumption (<= 10 W), maximum performance possible.
Actually, the question is: will the replacement of hardware lead to a noticeable increase in performance for the same
tasks (in particular, the web server is of interest) compared to the current hardware?
