Upgrading the disk of an old laptop?

I want something weird. There is a laptop with 2.5 screws, an unused drive (all PATA) and an ExpressCard slot. Linux OS. How to upgrade to be interesting and useful? As an option - an adapter for a screw in the sdroma bay, into it or an SSD, or a second RAID screw. There is almost nothing for the Expresscard, but you can make it out of a card reader and a fast flash drive. Offer any kind of shit. There is access to eBay and Chinese stores

@nochkin

There is an SSD with PATA interface. Certainly you can find faster than PATA-CF heaps.
