Unsuccessful Ubuntu upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04. What can be done?

Yesterday, after a forced update of Ubuntu from version 13.10 to version 14.04, an error apparently occurred and the graphical shell stopped starting. Windows 7 is installed on the same laptop as a second OS. In mc, you can enter Ubuntu. How can I save the files that are in the /var/www/ folder and preferably copy the MySQL database files too. I really don't want to lose them. Help me please.

If you started mc, then what is the actual problem? Fill everything you want to save to the Windows disk / media / (unless of course the mount point is / media), and then do whatever you want with Ubuntu. In general, I would have done as written above and reinstalled the graphics, your Xs just didn’t start, there’s nothing to worry about, the data is all safe and sound.

Read what is written in the dmesg output. See what's wrong in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Try something like this:
This will remove Unity and graphics per se.
This will clean up the remaining dependencies.
This will put back everything that the standard Ubuntu distribution needs. With the removal of everything that is shown in the process of these commands, agree.

If you are too lazy to bother with restoring the system, boot from the LiveCD and copy the files to where you need to.

Well, boot into non-graph shell mode. And put everything on a flash drive. As I understand it, the system is alive - there is no graphon?

plz explain this?
only the graphical shell stopped loading? if the console is available to you and you can log in by entering your login and password, then nothing is lost at all.
pack /home/your_user, /var/www, /etc and copy them to the second disk, where Windows is.
databases, if they are Myisam, can also be simply copied, if InnoDB, then they need to be exported using MySql
