University after the 11th?

In short: I’m 17, the exam is coming soon, but since the end of the 18th year I have been sitting, learning js, studying node and js, writing simple REST / GraphQL apishki for pet projects, and began to think, where next? Is it worth it to sit at home and engage in self-development? Or prefer a university? I do not evaluate myself as a skill coder, because I have little experience, I continue to study, read articles on Habré, a medium. I am interested in the IT sphere, but the question of where to go...

Is it worth it to sit at home and engage in self-development?
no. Anyway
Or prefer a university?
you know how to choose a university, teachers, program, you understand what every hour of your study at a university will give you If you do
n’t know how, you don’t know why a university is for you - gain this knowledge at work
Look for a job, work, get an understanding of where your gaps are and how they can be filled
For targeted training, it is enough to find a sane teacher and go to him directly with questions
TLDR:
University - needed for
- obtaining the knowledge you need, if there are no other ways
(the teacher does not want to teach you personally, there are no courses, etc. etc.)
- science, if everything just itches if you don’t promote science
(here it is worth considering that more often it turns out that something grandiose is sawn in Google, and then a disser is obtained from it. Or, as an option, a huge mathematical work is done, and then it is introduced into the software in a couple of lines and speeds it up by orders of magnitude
) - not needed for:
- general education - it's all done at school or by self-education
- because Vasya's neighbor got it, but you haven't yet
- getting a job
- getting the right to work abroad - lack of personnel has already forced countries to abolish this practice

Oh, these "university or experience in IT." Those who graduated from the university will argue with reason that only there you can get knowledge in mathematical analysis, in higher mathematics, in TPR and OOP. Those who did not finish their studies will prove that they learned everything themselves and earn 150,000 rubles each. on freelance.
Go study, without mathematics you will only rivet business card sites for small hands.

It's not worth sitting at home.
The main advantages for going to study at a university immediately after school, in descending order:
1) then there may not be time;
2) development of horizons and useful experience;
3) prof. skills (in 3rd place, because the degree of quality will depend only on the teaching staff);
4) dating
As an alternative - you can immediately go to get a job in the office, freelancing and lose some of the above, gain something else (more practically significant experience, money).
As a general advice, if there is time and mom and dad are still feeding, go study.

Is it worth it to sit at home and engage in self-development?

Yes, but required
...in parallel with this. The point is that one does not exclude the other.
In my opinion, the university is necessary because:
1) Fundamental knowledge (which will form the basis for further self-improvement)
2) The possibility of internships
3) The possibility of exchange studies in other countries
4) The possibility of moving to study in other countries, for example, after the first year or
5) Dating 6
) And yes, theoretical knowledge and practical skills in software development
7) A diploma that is useful, at least in order to go to work in another country
But:
1) It should be a normal university in Moscow or St. Petersburg.
2) Everything that I have listed can be obtained without studying at the university, but you must have excellent motivation and an understanding of what is really needed. Paragraph (7) also depends on the country, requirements are different everywhere, but usually 5+ years of experience can replace a diploma.
The university greatly facilitates this if you really study, practice on your own and do not forget about internships.
It is important to remember that studying at a university does not guarantee anything, as well as self-study. There are many examples of success and failure in both cases. It all depends mainly on the person and a fortunate combination of circumstances: you can rivet landing pages with a Ph.D. degree, or you can head the R&D department in a Google-level company without education.
Unfortunately, I observed a situation close to the first more often than close to the second... But it depends on many factors. In my opinion, the main reason for this is a lack of understanding of what and why you are doing. This is one of the reasons why Russia has a record number of people with degrees in law/economics etc. who work in, say, reception.
