Unity stopped running. How to fix?

Unity of all varieties (5.6.4, 2018, 2019, 2020) stopped running. At startup, as usual, it asks you to select a project, then a gray window with a black screen opens, where there should be a scene view and that's it. At the same time, the icon in the taskbar shows that the download is in progress (green bar) is approximately 70% full.
When trying to open the scene directly, it shows part of the objects in the scene, but basically the same gray screen. You can't interact with anything, it crashes when clicked.
