Understanding the concept of a php instance?

In various books on PHP, there are concepts of "class instance" or "object instance".
What is the difference between them, or are they the same thing?

An instance of a class is an object.
An instance of an object - they don't say that)
And if you already meet an "instance of an object", then consider it just an "object".
