Ubuntu hangs, what should a newbie do?

A common question is "why does Ubuntu hang?", i.e. It just freezes and only shutdown helps. I'm a complete newbie to UNIX systems, so I don't know anything at all. What to do in such a situation? I searched on Google but there are too many rather complicated tips and therefore I turned here.

Or maybe the system is just overheating and it is worth vacuuming it? :)

View logs. You can use the application for viewing logs ("System log" and "Log file viewer" in English), or directly:

/var/log/kern.log
/var/log/syslog
 ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.*цифра*.log

The first 2 paths from the root.

switch to mint for a beginner, it is more user-friendly
if vidyuha nvidia then mint mate
if there is no cintamon
And in general, get used to the fact that in Linux not everything is always out of the box.
But in general, in Linux, all system logs are dumped into the /var/log folder.
Learn it what and where and half of Linux will no longer be a mystery to you.
