As an option - you can try to upgrade to 12.04, then to 14.04. Well, then until 16.04, if you're lucky. Do the first tests by hand, a lot can go wrong. After successfully updating the test machine - take a look at ansible. It can execute commands on all 80 machines simultaneously. And it is simpler than Puppet, just for this task.
