Ubuntu 16.04 GUI won't load, Options?
After the update and reboot, the graphical shell stopped loading. On the login screen, everything is frozen. I tried many ways, it did not help .. intel video card.
After some time, the login window in the account still changes from the default to mine, I log in to the account, the cursor disappears, everything hangs again.

Is the screen visible?
Check if there is enough space in your home directory.
If you have 16.04, then it means Unity DE.
And if Unity, then why is GDM installed (with Unity it's just not childishly buggy)?!
Must be on the right LightDM!
Definitely, if Unity is installed, then replace GDM with LightDM !!!
And, of course, to distort Compiz (and in general, to solve the problem), by doing:
Restart.
If dconf is not installed, which is likely, then install before this:
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/; setsid unity
sudo apt install dconf-editor
