Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS not logging in, what should I do?

Hello everyone, I'm tired of Windows, I decided to install Linux and the choice fell on Ubuntu. I downloaded 14.04 from the site, read the manual on how to install, how to split partitions. Installed, during installation I chose autom. login. But when loading, it still asks for a password. And when you enter the correct password, it seems to boot, then a sharply black screen and again a window for entering the password. Through the guest entrance the same garbage.
Through the console I tried startx // for a second the screen turns black and a notification pops up in the console
Tried to remove the quiet splash in the rude and instead nomodeset. Nothing has changed
In .xsession-errors and the log does not start up, access is denied, although I wrote sudo -i
In general, I want to understand Ubuntu, please help with the problem and tell me which book is better to read or article in order to better understand the system

Rufus - write this program. Through ultraISO and I do not see a flash drive.
Put 16.04 first.

The best option is to put it on a virtual machine and see how it works.
