Ubuntu 11.04, problems starting the system
Hello cheaters!
For a long time, using ubuntu 10.10 was a joy, but with the advent of 11.04, those days are gone.
It all started with the fact that I upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 with unity. When the system booted, only wallpaper appeared on the desktop, nothing else.
OK. Demolished the system, put a clean ubuntu 11.04. The problem didn't go away. Again, when the system booted up, only the wallpaper appeared. Booting into ubuntu classic mode, I managed to enter a working system. I connected to the Internet and decided to demolish the unit and install gnome3:
The problem was not solved, because when loading ubuntu 11.04 in Gnome3 mode, the same problems.
Although I was able to boot from unity, but after I pulled out the patchcord, everything hung up for me, saying that I could only move the mouse. Alt+F2 doesn't work.
What could be the problem? Hardly iron, although here are my specifications just in case:
Processor: AMD 64 Athlon Dual-Core x2, TK-42. 1.60 GHz
RAM: 3GB
Video: ATI Radeon x1200

at one time, with a similar problem, the sequence of actions helped:
/usr/share/applications, and we edit all .desktop files, erasing everything from the beginning to [Desktop Entry]
if it doesn’t help, unsubscribe, we’ll think of something.
btw, ctrl+alt+f2 i.e. output to the console, does it work?
I had such problems with 11.04, and even worse.
Oddly enough, updating the BIOS helped
