Ubuntu 10.4/10.10 sound indicator/applet gone missing

When I set 10.4, I had to look for information about deleting pulse audio, because it was impossible to listen to music. I found several resources on the net:
itshaman.ru/articles/88/remove-sound-server-pulseaudio-in-ubuntu
forum.ubuntu.ru/index.php?topic=69589.0
- I don’t remember exactly what I did. But in the end, Alsa was on the system and everything was wonderful.
The sound applet disappeared somewhere. He did not suffer for him, because. sound control could be done in hardware - from the keyboard and software - from the cairo-dock.

But.
It's time for 10.10 - with its new sound indicator.
Problem: There is no indicator.
There is a gnome-volume-control-applet entry in gnome-session-properties and it is active.
I know that now the sound icon is located along with the network. I have a dropbox stuck there.
But the sound icon is colored, not the default gray one. And he can only do louder / quieter.
Player functions ala “A new indicator for sound control has been added, which allows you to change the volume level and at the same time control the playback of musical compositions in the Rhythmbox player from the panel. The indicator supports the ability to change the design of the sound applet through the installation of visual themes ;» - No, not at all.
Not with Rhythmbox, not with Exaile.
I would like to return the default one + see the new sound indicator in action.

Any suggestions?

Most likely, adding gnome-volume-control-applet to autoload will help

sudo apt-get remove gnome-media --purge
then install the package from
packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/i386/gnome-media/download
and check /etc/apt/sources.list for repositories from previous distributions.

After the n-th number of actions, I managed to return the indicator like this Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet. Maybe the link will help ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1595517.html
