Two-character domains vs IE how does ya.ru set cookies?

We are all aware that IE has a problem with setting cookies for two-character domains: habrahabr.ru/post/74746/

But if you look at ya.ru - IE (at least the ninth one) correctly accepts and saves a cookie whose domain is explicitly set in the title as .ya.ru

How do they do it?

It looks like IE is hardwired for exceptions (see update ).

This is the first time I hear about such a problem. And it does not concern single-character domains? And then in Ukraine we have a lot of all kinds of e.ua, i.ua, etc. (not to mention the popular ex.ua, to which dozens of articles are devoted to Habré), which seem to have no problems with cookies and authorization.
