Two birds with one stone. English and programming?
Every day I have to climb into the documentation and often it is in English. All articles are in the same English, all interesting videos are in English, everything is in English. Therefore, I listen, write and read in English every day, so far I have no one to speak with. But my vocabulary is small, so much so that I often have to look into the dictionary, because of this, listening and reading is very problematic. But the problem is not learning new words, but how to learn new words? Now I am using Lingualeo to repeat those same 1000 common words and they give a good base, what should I do next?
There are some people who say that when reading words, you don’t need to memorize them, you just need to find them in the dictionary and continue reading. Some others say that you don’t even need to look for words in the dictionary, you need to guess from the text what this or that word means. Well, the rest say that you need to write out every unfamiliar word in something like Anki and then learn it.
Which of these methods is correct? Now my goal is to read in English, namely technical literature and articles. What to do with unfamiliar words? Where to put them? Due to the variety of advice, I simply got confused, it seems to me that whatever I do is inefficient and useless, the thought that there is a much better way just eats me up. How to kill two birds with one stone (English and programming) with one shot? Please advise on this matter.

I had exactly the same problem. I had to read books for Microsoft exams, and they were in English. At that time, my knowledge of English was at the level of a high school triple (such an assessment was in the certificate). Those. it was really hard to read, because I only knew two tenses - the past and the future with will and the standard set of words for a threesome.
I began to read printed books and signed words that I did not know on top. In parallel, I read about all English tenses (including the passive voice). Do not try to remember all these times right away, you just need to have an idea of \u200b\u200bwhat they look like and look periodically at the cheat sheet if you don’t understand what time is used. Then, in addition to writing from above, I started adding words to anki, as it turned out to be very useful, memorizing words went much faster. In this mode, I read books and articles for a year and a half somewhere. By the end of this period, I was able to freely read literature on programming, knowing almost all the words from the text. But this concerned only programming, because. words used in one particular direction are the same. For example, after that I decided to read Alice in Wonderland and faced a flurry of new words and expressions and it was again difficult for me to read. So the question of free reading of a particular direction is about a year, only this must be done constantly, almost every day.
