There are 2 pdf files, in one the front sides of a set of sheets - in the other, the reverse sides of the same sheets. How to combine with striping?

How in Acrobat, or some other tool, to merge these two files in such a way that each back side of each sheet comes after its front side? For a few pages one could drag and drop in acrobat by hand, but not when there are hundreds of pages.

I would do it in one script with pdfjam, but it’s under the windows for you ...
Look at this:

In particular, their PDFtk Server seems to allow run command

pdftk A=doc1.pdf B=doc2.pdf shuffle A B output complete.pdf

and get just what you need.
