There are 2 computers connected via a switch to the Internet, should they ping each other?

Wanted to share samba fedora.
At the end, when I already thought that everything was ready in Windows.
Through the `run` utility, I entered //linux_ip
But the network was not found.
I decided to try ping by ip, another computer.
Unsuccessfully.
Should there be a ping if both Internet cables are plugged into 1 switch to access the Internet.
Or do I have to set up samba first and only then will ping appear?
