The switch shorts, why?

Hello, I'm interested in a question. Why, when the cable is broken, when water seeps through UTP, the port closes, the port burns out? Why not the network card of the user, but the port?)

Maybe because the switch is lower in level than the user's card? Well, in principle, the user has a less complex device, in the normal position, water does not pour onto the motherboard. Also, the user's computer can generally be turned off at this moment, and the switch is always on.

First, figure out the reasons. Firstly, why does water get on the cable (this should not be the case in principle), if the cable is for internal wiring. Second, why is the cable damaged? Replace damaged area.
