The realtek alc888 chip burned out on the msi g31m ms-7379 motherboard. Can it be safely removed?
This microcircuit burned out. Can it be removed and how, so that the mother continues her work and does not burn the server room one moonless night? As I understand it, the board is multilayer and it is not possible to solder it. How can it be cut down so that only the legs remain?
PS The board itself works, but the chip starts to smoke when power is applied

take small pieces. I somehow bit with manicure, thank God there were thin legs and I was afraid that the wire cutters would break :)
then remove the legs with tweezers, warming up with a soldering iron.
the case itself can be soldered to the board. there are often large thermoPADs on the belly, it is very difficult to desolder them. but let it stand for itself, it does not interfere, the main thing is that it does not interfere with the signal lines.
well, then, as already mentioned, wash everything with alcohol and look at the quality of the soldering
Since, if you don’t solder, you still have to throw out the board, why not try it? Smear everything with passive flux so that the solder does not smear. Gently, slowly, heat the soldering iron and hook the leg with a needle. Layering has nothing to do with it, Chai, contact pads are all on the top layer. Then rinse everything with alcohol and look under a magnifying glass for the absence of short circuits. You shouldn’t use a hair dryer - you need to protect everything around very well so that you don’t blow away small things nearby and don’t weld electrolytes.
