The laptop sees the monitor only via DisplayPort. How to connect via HDMI?

I have a working Lenovo e495 thinkpad laptop and a Dell Alienware aw3420dw monitor.
The picture is ideally displayed, at 120Hz
, at maximum resolution, provided that the following connection is made:
Monitor> DisplayPort> Adapter to Type-C> laptop
I tried to display a picture in the following way:
Monitor> HDMI> Laptop
The picture is not displayed, or rather the monitor flickers and darkens a couple of times.
What connection options are there, friends? I want to free up the Type-C port for charging. I would not want to buy a docking station, it's very expensive.
