The laptop does not see the second RAM, what should I do?

There are two sticks of RAM on the laptop (one native 4GB, the other purchased for 8GB). I put a new bar in place of the old one, and the old one in an empty slot. The laptop sees only 8 gigs, how to fix it?

I'll copy here the characteristics from the instructions on the HP Sleekbook 15:

Two SODIMM memory module slots
Customer accessible and upgradeable
DDR3L-1600-MHz Dual channel support
DDR3-1333-MHz Dual channel support (DDR3L-1600 downgraded to DDR3-1333)
Supports up to 8192-MB of system RAM in the following configurations:
● 8192-MB (4096-MB×2)
● 6144-MB (4096-MB×1 + 2048-MB×1)
● 4096-MB (4096-MB×1 or 2048-MB×2)
● 2048-MB (2048 -MB×1)

We see that this model does not support more than 8 GB of RAM, so most likely both modules will not work for you at the same time and you will not get 12 GB on it.

Exchange for a compatible one.

greg_13 , you're completely missing out on all the incompatibilities. Different bars of different volumes - in itself a bad situation, and even different frequencies ...
