I publish articles and pictures from other sites, just by the link to save space on the hosting, and there is not so much of it ...
But the thumbnail is not displayed, and a standard picture is put ...

First of all, the first image is in the main content and should not be displayed as a thumbnail, especially if it is a link to an external source.
Let me remind you that the post thumbnail is set separately in the block on the right, and not in the content area.
Luckily, there are plugins out there that can make your life easier.

If an image is taken from the link, it is loaded in its original resolution. Change the size with styles, create a class for thumbnails and give it the desired width and height. In terms of optimization, it is better to load the current size immediately, so that the page weighs less.
