Symfony 2 or YII?
I want to develop and learn some framework. What is better for a beginner who is only superficially familiar with OOP? Personally, I prefer the second Symphony, which is about to be released. But the lack of Russian-language documentation is scary, in English I will be stuck with the translation for a long time. What do you advise?

I would recommend exploring both. You take a task (a blog, no matter how trite it may sound) and make two versions on these frameworks. At the end, you will already have made a choice in favor of one of them + basic knowledge of the second.
To begin with, study the patterns (what is and why), IMHO. Then there will be a deeper understanding of what actually happens in frameworks (especially in symphony) when you write a blog in two different ones to choose from. I don’t know about yii, but in Symfony2 patterns at every step and without understanding them, part of the code may seem (and for specific tasks even be) redundant.
Symfony2 is more powerful and more modern. But the barrier to entry is higher. About the patterns above, everything is written correctly. Without knowing the most important Symfony2 it is very difficult to understand.
