Swap partition size on weak netbook?
I took out an old netbook from the pantry and decided to install Linux Mint 17.1 there. One memory chip died and now the beech shows 0.7 GB of RAM. I foolishly stuck a 4 GB Swap partition. Is it normal? I read on various forums that you need a little more than RAM, but I don’t feel sorry for disk space (240 GB), and even with 0.7 RAM, I think it won’t pull much normally. I took out a netbook mainly because of the desire to watch movies on it.

When active programs get into the swap, they will start to slow down.
When the swap ends, processes will be automatically killed to free up memory. With 4 gigs on a netbook, this will not come soon.
The size of the video memory in the BIOS can be reduced, then a little more will become available.
Usually, on such volumes, the swap partition is made twice as large as the amount of RAM. 2GB will be enough for you.
