SSD connection method: via AHCI or PCIe?
Hello dear forum members.
This question came up in connection with the intention to replace the HDD with an SSD in the Compaq6820s.
(chipset, presumably Mobile Intel 965 Express Family)
The recommendation to insert a new SSD with SATA(III) into a standard SerialATA HDD bay is obvious.
The new disk will hang on the old controller.
It is also possible to remove the WiFi adapter (or ExpressCard reader) from the miniPCIe slot,
and use this slot for an NVMe (or SATA?) SSD controller.
Request for experts to comment on the way to turn on the disk through miniPCIe,
can it have advantages in terms of SSD performance?
Sincerely, Happyatman.

No, he can not. Firstly, it will not start there, since NVMe, in order to work as a bootable one, must be supported by the BIOS. Secondly, the difference in performance between NVMe and SATA in everyday tasks is microscopic even on new, powerful PCs. And on this dinosaur, you can’t even see the difference. Install a SATA SSD, it will give a significant performance boost relative to the HDD.
