Something in freelancing has become completely rotten with work, where is the work?

I have been freelancing for more than 7 years, and every year there is less and less work, it is registered on all popular Russian exchanges, before somehow you don’t have time to update the page, projects go one by one and the price tags are normal, but now there is some kind of silence and projects petty such, but only bots. What's going on with freelancing? How are you with work? Do clients write or do you find them yourself? I can’t even find the office now, before, somehow, even 2 years ago, the companies themselves called, and now there are no vacancies even in the office, and this is in a city with a millionaires, of course, there are 20-30 k, but these are the salaries ordinary staff receive, who did not study anywhere, such as loaders, sellers, and so on..

Crisis or what? what's going on, can anyone explain?

@Sanes

This is your crisis. You don't have to sit in one place.

Develop.
There has always been, and remains, an acute shortage of good specialists on the market.

I don't understand what crisis you are talking about. Orders above the roof - we can hardly cope with the assistant. At the same time, he did not work on freelance exchanges.

It all depends on what you are doing. Frontend, normal backend (not WP, Modx and that's all), Mobile Dev works through the roof, and the prices are sky high. There are even more highly specialized areas, everything is gorgeous there. Of course, if your skill is HTML, CSS, jQuery, WP - then there is probably yes, it doesn’t smell of anything except unwashed pussy

it used to be looking for freelance performers, but now freelancers and those who are not taken anywhere are sitting on freelance. Companies have long recruited their teams to work on their own projects. Previously, it was really possible to make good orders in batches, but now impoverished companies who want to do something for them for a penny turn to freelance exchanges.
and in the office people are always required and for good salaries, the demand for programmers is very high, because. programmers with experience about 1% of all.

The situation has changed, and you have not adjusted to these changes. Freelancing is a misconception.
1) Designers take a part of the market https://trends.builtwith.com/ Wicks alone 4 million sites
2) 6 years in a row the decline in the Russian economy, in 2019 the decline intensified, many people have little money and they save, the world is on on the verge of another crisis at the level of the Great Depression (the head of the IMF recently said)
3) The era of Internet platforms has begun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujd9wxz3yv8
here it is touched upon. A group in social networks replaces the site.
4) There were a lot of intermediaries and outbids, some of the web studios were bent.
5) You must have different sources (exchanges, regular customers, word of mouth recommendations, your own website and advertising in social networks, Yandex and Google.

1. If there are posts with projects on freelance sites, then there is definitely work.
2. The fact that you cannot take them for realization speaks about your skill: it has become extremely low. You need to CONSTANTLY download it in order to be able to compete with other performers.
3. Perhaps you need to monitor the average market cost of works and for the first time slightly reduce the price tag on your own in order to be able to take projects during the increase in skill.
4. Maybe everyone understood that today, without a contract and real guarantees, you should not trust your project to anyone at all.

I only had shitty things in January. But so every year after NG. I write myself in 40% of cases, 60% are old clients from the same exchanges. Maybe it's worth expanding the scope of work, learning something new, for which there is a demand on the exchanges?

If you have been freelancing for seven years and haven’t earned permanent employees and a sarafan that overwhelm you with work during this time ... Then I have bad news for you, you are clearly doing something wrong) The
math is simple here, if you do your job efficiently, then almost always 1 client = 1 constant source of orders. Those. he will either order something from time to time himself, or recommend you to one of his friends.
Perhaps you worked through intermediaries, try working directly with customers.

I also noticed a downward trend in orders in Upwork, and clients don’t really want to shell out and invitations to interviews stopped coming a long time ago, although I’m in the top.
Colleagues in the workshop are right, the situation has changed.

Good afternoon. There are certain prerequisites for freelancing to become an increasingly highly competitive environment. I would single out two main factors:

  • freelancing is becoming more and more popular - more and more people come here;
  • Russia's economy has been in a moderate crisis for the last 5 years.

We combine these two factors and get the following:
customers pay less due to the crisis and the influx of newcomers.
Of course, most newcomers, having realized all the difficulties of freelancing, return back to the office.
But do some remain?
For example, I am a typical beginner: I started to really make money on freelancing just over a year ago.
Now they have more or less stable 1k greenbacks in copywriting.
Do I see crises?
In fact, it seems to me that the Russian Runet is the most dynamically developing branch of the domestic economy.

Today, no one can do without the Internet and all sorts of sites: it’s better to starve, but pay for the Internet.
So it is unlikely that in the future there will be some kind of crisis in freelancing.
I already have 5-6 normal regular customers in a year.
I try, I write, I fulfill their requests and conditions.
Although I am far from being a philologist and graduated from the Mekhmat.
