If you need a software part - that is, an excellent axis for storage - FreeNas. I personally use it by building a 4-disk nas on an Intel Atom. If you don’t feel like messing around, then something from Qnap or Synology are leaders in this area.

Here you have to look. what do you want to get from this network storage and how much money will fit.
The simplest thing is to buy a ready-made NAS, but this is not the most budget solution.

The best solution is Synology. It has a killer feature, CloudStation. Basically a local dropbox. Through it, you can synchronize documents between all devices.

Initially, I did not think about the finished NAS. The idea was to start a server on Linux ...

www.amahi.org/ is an open source solution based on Linux. It is installed on top of Ubuntu (I recommend not to deviate from the tutorial, do not click the checkboxes like MySQL server during installation, Amahi puts its own platform).
Amahi has its own application base, including AjaXplorer, ACE (file manager and editor), GreyHole-based software RAID, media servers for both desktop DAAP and mobile DLNA.
If you become a beta tester, you can install ownCloud. ownCloud has one of the features - synchronization, as in DosBox (although they write, ownCloud is somewhat damp)
