SMTP relay to AD Site Exchange 2010 not working, how to find out why?

2 Exchange 2010 servers with the latest updates on MS Win Server 2008R2
Letters are stuck in the queue and do not go away. In LAST ERROR (Queue viewer):
451 4.4.0 primary target ip address responded with: "451 5.7.3 cannot achieve exchange server authentication" Attempted failover to alternate host but that did not succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts or delivery failed to all alternate hosts.

Is the authentication tab configured correctly in the properties of the relay?

Are each other's IPs listed on the Networking tab of the recive connector?
