Slow Skype, language or poor optimization?

Good day to all. The question is, “Why is Skype so slow and I would say not even agile?” I hope they will understand me) I decided to ask the question because I heard that the reason for this lack of agility is that it is written in JavaScript, but then I found out that this is not so. And now it torments me and I want to know, all the same, what’s the matter) thanks in advance to everyone)

It is written in Electron, a very clumsy and gluttonous engine, the only advantage of which is very fast development.
No one seems to be going to optimize Skype for performance, and the closeness of the protocol hinders the development of clients from third-party manufacturers.
Indeed, at the moment there are enough alternative popular messengers, some with open architecture and protocols - take it and write.
And the reverse engineering of Skype, given that Microsoft can change everything at any time, means that it’s really easier to throw your strength into an alternative messenger.
Maybe someday Microsoft will remember that Skype still has its own considerable audience and will meet them halfway - after all, there have been many steps towards open source in recent years from MS. But whether it will come to Skype is unknown. Microsoft is now paying more attention to the business version of Skype (former Lynx aka Microsoft Communicator)

I don’t know how it is now, but I used to see that the laptop’s camera slows down. However, when I launched my program for the camera, it turned out that the problem was in the laptop (one model has a fast driver, the other has brakes). I concluded that Skype had nothing to do with it. Those. I advise you to first, without Skype, just turn on the camera (display program) and wave your hand (preferably on different laptops).
