Should You Upgrade Nginx?

I now have a VPS running on Nginx + php-fpm
And here is the version of nginx/1.4.6 (Ubuntu)
I would like to know. Should I update it to 1.8.0. Or can something fly off? It's just that the sites have already been created on the server, they are working and everything is set up.
https://www.nginx.com/resources/wiki/start/topics/...
There is an instruction on how to add a repository and update.

yes worth it.
can fly off.
Try it on a test environment and check the configs there.

You definitely need to update, read what security updates are and why they are needed.
When upgrading from 1.4 → 1.8, nothing can go wrong with nginx, unless you break something yourself, when you upgrade to 1.9.x, the configs in which spdy is specified will break, you will need to replace spdy with http2 in them, otherwise nothing can break either .

something can fly off, of course, but in an unupdated one ,
a vulnerability may appear sooner or later
, so - painstakingly and carefully:
1) lifting VPS
2) install last tops
3) copy config, compare configs

Update - you can, it depends on the changelog.
It is unlikely to fly off if there is nothing super-crazy in the configs and individual modules - almost unbelievable.
Although 1 time to collect from the sources and then update the binary itself is even easier and more convenient.
