Should I study SEO in depth?

Now I’m mastering layout in all its delights, but I also started to wonder if it’s worth studying SEO at this stage, should a front-end developer or layout designer go deep into optimization? Or maybe it's like a separate branch with which other specialists work?
Sorry in advance if the question is stupid, I just want to figure out what's what and whether it's worth getting into it at the stage of studying the layout.

Not worth it. It is better to study the layout in depth, without being distracted by extraneous things.
