Should I start learning iOS development from scratch at 36?

Hi all! I'm 36 years old. I have been living in Germany for 3.5 years. The region in which I live is absolutely unpromising in terms of job search and career development. Experience in the hotel industry in Odessa (sales manager, e-commerce). I was very excited about the idea of learning iOS development on my own and working for freelance. They answer me. They say that it’s too late, unpromising, I won’t pull it, and so on. Guys, help me sort out the issues. 1. How long will it take to learn in order to start earning? 2. What earning options are possible and promising in my case? (For example: writing your own applications for the AppStore, looking for remote work, freelancing, etc.) 3. Is it possible for a beginner self-taught person to find a job remotely? 4. What difficulties can I face? (age, mistrust, stereotypes, competition, etc.) Your opinions and advice are very welcome!

Should I start learning iOS development from scratch at 36?

If you like it, and not only money serves as motivation, then yes.
and freelance

As for me - a bad idea, and it is she who can serve as a stumbling block in your dilemma. Junes are not freelancing = weak in architecture (lack of knowledge), there is no person at hand who will poke his nose at problem areas (in the office, just such a person behind the eyes).
3. Is it possible for a beginner self-taught person to find a job remotely?

It depends on your brains, if you are ready to devote 5-6 hours a day to programming from scratch, for a year - something can work out. But without code review, there is a chance that you will learn so-so, and retraining a programmer is quite expensive.
What difficulties can I face? (age, mistrust, stereotypes, competition, etc.)

Age - in freelancing, it doesn't matter how old you are, the main thing is a pumped-out portfolio, for example, on Upwork.
Distrust - 100% while you are new to freelancing, you will fight with others for a penny.
The competition - at the junior level - is colossal, most likely you will be eaten by young and hungry students who just found the position of a junior in the office, and are already swinging on 2 sides.
My subjective opinion: the strategy was initially chosen incorrectly.
Freelancing + jun = the surest option here would be some kind of php, and creating sites on the knee. And as soon as you have knowledge of some kind of language and the general construction of the project architecture. You can already learn swift. 2 languages in my head = this is already the norm for a programmer
UPD: If everyone's eyes are burning like that, a more expensive option will do. Find a mentor after learning the basics of the language (preferably a working programmer in the Senior+ position), who will do code review and help. This will allow you to emulate the "office", and then look not for freelance, but for remote work in Europe / CIS.

I came to ios at 36. But - I came after a year and a half on qa-automation python. But - this is not the main thing, but the fact that I was not a freelancer, but worked in a company. This is the main component of a positive result. IMHO.

36 years. not a girl, not a schoolgirl.
Well, how do random people on the Internet know what you can do, what can you do?
If you have never had an IT background in your life, to master the most basic things from scratch - so take it and master it. Master it to the point where you can write a simple program. Then you will be able to answer your own questions.
If you want a plan right away, then you are interested in development ONLY for the sake of earning money, and not because you like it by itself - in this case, a disastrous occupation.

I started studying at 30 now 40, the salary has increased 10 times during this time, IMHO, if you want to learn something new, such questions should not be asked at all, if only because of the money, it will not take off.

iOS development is some kind of elite club. Just to get started you need to have an official apple phone, an official apple computer and a developer account - it's all pretty expensive. There is little open documentation. There are few tutorials on the internet. Courses are few and expensive.
Make an app for applephones are often asked.

I do not think that development for IOS (as well as for Android) is the most promising for freelancing. One cannot pull a large project alone, and no one needs small ones.
In addition, as a rule, an application for a mobile phone exists on its own, but in combination with a server infrastructure.
