The new academic year at the university is starting soon, and I will have to travel every weekend between home and the city of study, 2-3 hours on the road, and I don’t really want to waste the laptop battery, does the external battery charge easier and faster than the device itself? Will a 5000 mAh battery last a few hours?

look at the battery capacity of your laptop - and evaluate how long it lasts. Compare with the capacity of an external battery. Please note that an external battery of 5000 mAh will actually give less.
