Shortcodes in WordPress. Is it evil or good?

Hello. Interested in opinions about shortcodes in wordpress.
It is very convenient for development, put it in and go ahead, but what about the pitfalls? Do they exist? Are there any downsides to using shortcodes?

Hello.
The obvious negative side is that WordPress has to search for all shortcodes and their attributes with regular expressions, which takes up some resources. Therefore, if it is possible to use the function directly, it is better to call it directly.

If not from the software side, but from the point of view of UX on the part of the customer, this is evil. Customers are afraid of the need to enter a shortcode on their own or even with a "button" in the visual editor. This is terrible evil magic, when a short expression brings out an entire sheet.
If shortcodes are used to display something in templates that are not editable by the customer, this is unconditionally good and should be done this way.
