Setting up the printer for the network

There is a computer with Ubuntu 10.10 and a printer connected to it.
It is necessary - to open this access over the network, ideally with some kind of authorization for a login / password pair, in order to have access to the home printer from anywhere.
The question is - is it really possible to set up something like this?
