Selenium, WebDriver and Chrome

In selenium, for the test, you need to
1. click on the link to download the file
2. wait until the file is downloaded

The first step is easy ... But how to do the second? How can you understand from selenium that the file is downloaded? Are there adequate ways?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

We make a cycle in which we check for the presence of the filename.crdownload file in the download folder. If there is no file with this extension, then it has been downloaded. Might have to play with sleep before/in the loop.
I looked at the extension of the temporary file on Win7 / Chrome 14.
