Searching for wifi networks and connecting from a Linux terminal?

VirtualBox is running Kali Linux.
There is currently one interface (eth0) that is bridged to my home router.
How can I scan all wifi networks from the console?
need to create a new interface in VirtualBox wlan0 ? or what? how to
help
please step by step instructions, if not hard
